Second chances are rare in K-pop, but for four of Pristin’s ex-members (Eunwoo, Minkyeung, Gyeongwan and Yaebin), a new opportunity has emerged in the form of girl group HINAPIA. However, this debut comes from a much smaller entertainment company, lacking the industry clout (and budget) of Pledis Entertainment. Nevertheless, Drip arrives with its fair share of post-Pristin hype.
When it comes to the actual song, I think I like the idea of it better than the final product. Girl group concepts have been fairly polarized this year, often leaning toward a quirky-cute sound or heavy, BLACKPINK-esque banger. There’s so much to explore between those two extremes, and that middle ground tends to produce my favorite girl group material. Drip slots within this gray area, though it doesn’t do a particularly convincing job of it.
To be fair, the song’s gunshot samples and lyrics about being a “gangster” veer closer to BLACKPINK territory, but Drip’s delivery is refreshingly direct. Even though its concept demands a certain level of badassery, there are plenty of melodic bits to soften what could have been an overly harsh aesthetic. I like the track’s percolating beat, which bolsters the entire instrumental without ever steering off course. However, Drip is frustratingly short on hooks. The titular chorus is catchy, but too one-note to leave much of an impression. The verses engage well with the production, but feel more like a support than a driving force. It all comes together to forge a decent debut, held aloft by the novelty of seeing these long-lost performers back in action.

…did they use the audio from their first stage performance for the MV??

Yeah I’m not sure what’s going on with the audio (or the video’s framerate issues). It made the song hard to review, but I think I got the jist of it.

I heard this is a FM MV and someone set up the whole account like it was official

In fact I was just talking to a friend who is a film editor that said no doubt it is FM MV, it is not actually an official release

Have I been punk’d? I think you’re actually right, but wow at this fake channel having more subscribers and videos than their actual channel?
This is some elaborate prank. (but I still feel kind of dumb…)

The official MV comes out monday. I the linked FM MV uses clips from the teasers.

Well… looking on the bright side, I guess that’s one less song I have to review on Monday!

I hate comparing releases to other songs because I think there music is always going to is a lot of similarities no matter how creative you are, but there is a lot of “haven’t I heard that before? vibes popping up as I listen to this. We had this similar discussion recently with ARIAZ’s “Moonlight Aria”. For example, the heartbeat of this song veers very close to League of Legends “POP/STARS”.

There are also Red Velvet vibes, CLC vibes, etc.. All that aside, this is a decent debut effort. I don’t think the video was low budget, just not as over-the-top as we’ve become spoiled by. One could argue that LOOΠΔ’s debut, “favOriTe”, was low budget and that has the backing of an entire military complex.

All in all, it was a decent first effort. I’m biased towards GG’s, so I think I’m more accepting, but I think your review summed it up nicely.
P.S. It’s interesting that this song shares the title “Drip” with Jessi’s new P-Nation release, which “dropped” on the same day. I’ll be curious to get your take on that one, should you decide to cover it.

Wow, did I butcher that first sentence or what? Should’ve read:
“𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦,…”
Let this be a lesson to you, kiddies; don’t post on very little sleep! 😀

I like this song a lot! There’s something very sleek and no-nonsense about it that I find refreshing. I did wish there was a bit more lyrical variation–they said ‘drip’ maybe about 40 times throughout the song–but I’m a happy camper regardless.

Popstars – there is a resemblance now that I listen for it. The difference is that Popstars is over the top, dial at 11 awesome in the chorus. In this one the dial stays at 6 the whole song.
The other “Drip” that dropped to day is everything I hate about contemporary American rap / hip hop music.
This one is OK, not terrible.
(Speaking of Loona, where did Loona go? And the “stan Loona” stanners?)

Yeah, I won’t even be reviewing the “other” Drip. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all… right? Plus, it’s all in English so that gives me the excuse to ignore it!

I don’t know if how frequent you check/update for dead links but the embedded video for this post has disappeared. Here’s a link from their actual channel for this song’s music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=461YlHjnVlM
