I have great respect for Jun. K’s work. In fact, his bonkers 2014 single Love & Hate is probably my favorite 2PM-related release ever, solo or otherwise. He definitely has a unique creative sentiment, which sometimes causes him to veer in all sorts of strange directions. Love Letter was originally a Japanese single and mini-album a few weeks ago, but now the Korean version has been released along with the music video. The overall sound is in keeping with 2PM’s most recent album, which I thought was just a bit of a snooze. It has a classic big band sound to it…  that is before it segues into a jarring burst of hip-hop for a brief bridge. The chorus is by far the best thing about the song, with its soaring melody and timeless feel. It’s a shame that the rest of the track isn’t as melodic. It’s kind of a hodgepodge of three disparate elements that aren’t equally strong, and I’m really confused by the use of sleigh bells during the hook. As far as I know, the song isn’t meant to be tied to the holidays, and I honestly think it would be better without that little production touch. Still, kudos to the track’s warm, classic atmosphere and the throwback music video, which is a really fun watch.
