Kris (Wu Yi Fan) – Greenhouse Girl

kris wu yi fan - greenhouse girl

Lately, I’ve been following the three ex-EXO members’ Chinese output more closely. It’s been a bit of a mixed bag, with (some of) LuHan’s material coming out on top for me personally. Kris was never my favorite EXO member, and he hasn’t released all that much material since he went solo, but even though his budget seems to be smaller than LuHan’s or Tao’s, I do like all three songs he’s put out. Greenhouse Girl is the latest single, taken from the soundtrack to his upcoming movie Mr. Six, and it’s quite different than the power rock/rap of Bad Girl. The song has a chill, organic feel to it, with live instrumentation that gives the track a jazzy edge. This usually wouldn’t be my thing, but after a few listens, that simple chorus definitely stuck. It’s not the type of sound I think he’ll stay with, but as far as OST tracks go, it’s heads and tails above most of them. And in a lot of ways, the smoothness of the melody does really fit the chic, aloof image Kris fashioned for himself when he was with EXO.
