LuHan’s been releasing a lot of material over the past couple of months, and the quality has definitely varied. The bulk of his stuff has a sparely produced, American hip-pop feel, which isn’t something I naturally gravitate to. Luckily, the strength of his personality and celebrity helps cover some of the qualms that I have with his song and production choices, and I’ve really grown to love tracks like Football Gang and That Good Good, despite initially being underwhelmed. Unfortunately, The Inner Force feels very much like a lazy rewrite of those two tracks, filled with cliched lyrics and a tired production drop. In essence, it’s nothing more than a promotional track for the new Star Wars movie. I guess they figured they didn’t have to waste an a-level song on something like that, so they threw out what sounds like an underdeveloped shadow of his better material. Oh, well. It makes a fine album track. But as a promotional single, it’s pretty forgettable and seems to lack the spark of his best material.
