Top Three K-Pop Songs of May 2017

Monthly Round-UpAt the end of each month, I look back at my three favorite title tracks by k-pop artists. I take my own ratings into account, but there’s a bit of wiggle room as certain songs tend to grow or fade.

May 2017 Overall Thoughts

May was a month of contrasts. The first two weeks were among the slowest, most underwhelming stretches I can remember and honestly left me feeling disappointed and uninspired. Then halfway through the month, the floodgates opened. Not everything was amazing — in fact, a lot of it was pretty average — but having a steady flow of new releases really reignited that good old k-pop energy I’d been missing. No new single earned above a high “8” from me this month, though in hindsight I’d probably bump May’s top song up to a solid “9.” With SM Entertainment basically taking the past couple of months off, and many of the big guns yet to release new music, I have my fingers crossed for an exciting summer. We certainly need it!
