At the end of each month, I’ll look back at my three favorite title tracks by k-pop artists. Unlike my end-of-year countdowns, jpop and Japanese releases by kpop artists are ineligible, though I will give the great ones a spotlight. For my top three tracks, I’ll take my own ratings into account, but there is a bit of wiggle room as songs tend to grow or fade.
August 2016 Overall Thoughts
If you would have asked me at the start of the month what my top tracks of August would be, I would have never predicted the way things actually shook out. This was a month where songs grew or faded exponentially, with my thoughts changing quite often from initial reviews. My number one song, in particular, went from “enjoyable” to “play-it-a-million-times addictive.” August was also an oddly underwhelming month. I thought that the Olympics would bring things to a halt, but we still got some big releases. The problem was, most of these comebacks came and went without much impact. I’m still waiting for my top three k-pop groups to return, and it looks like at least two will do so in September. That can only be a good thing, because this summer didn’t give us many tracks that felt like instant classics.

Looks like September and the rest of the year will be a big time for 2016 KPop.
What do you think of the new Infinite teaser? It sounds like Rphabet will be producing for them based on the Back-esque sound.

I think it’s going to be a long 19 days! I’m okay with more Rphabet, if that’s what it ends up being, but I really hope they use Sweetune again for something. We’ll see. Their teasers have a history of sounding nothing like the eventual title track. Either way, I’m pumped for their overdue return!
