Looking Back: The Top Three K-Pop Songs of October 2015

Monthly Round-UpSince the start of The Bias List in January 2016, I’ve always looked back at my three favorite title tracks by K-pop artists each month. Now, it’s time to look even further into the past, one month at a time. And, yes, the top three rankings count toward The Bias List’s personal artist scorecard!

Which month do you want to see next?

October 2015 Overall Thoughts

Just looking at the releases for this month, I can already tell that my opinion will differ from many. For me, October 2015 was just a so-so month. But, many of the songs here have become classics of third-generation K-pop.

June through September of 2015 were so relentlessly strong that October feels a little light in comparison. Still, the month offered some notable SM-related releases. We got Taeyeon’s first full-fledged solo activities since debut, as well as the final (as of now) f(x) album. Rookie groups iKON, Oh My Girl, N.Flying and Monsta X continued to bolster their burgeoning discography with solid hits.

But, October 2015’s most consequential moment happened on the 20th. That was the debut date of Twice, who would — of course — go on to lead girl group trends for the next several years. Like Ooh Ah was a slam dunk debut song that only grew more popular as the months went on.

Beyond that, K-pop started to move into its predictable ballad season, offering a more subdued pace as we came closer to the winter season. At this point, we were only a few months away from the creation of The Bias List, which means the seed of the idea must have begun to take root in my mind!
