Since the start of The Bias List in January 2016, I’ve always looked back at my three favorite title tracks by K-pop artists each month. Now, it’s time to look even further into the past, one month at a time. And, yes, the top three rankings count toward The Bias List’s personal artist scorecard!
February 2013 Overall Thoughts
It’s not unusual for February to be a pretty sparse month in K-pop due to the Lunar New Year holiday, and 2013 was no different. Compared to January, my honorable mentions list is much smaller. I even cheated by including a few OST tracks (I highly recommend checking out Loco & Havy T’s rock/hip-hop/dubstep hybrid The Virus if you haven’t yet heard it).
February delivered a few debuts, from EXID sub-unit Dasoni to girl group Purplay (with their bonkers Love And Remember, which opens with an odd giggle and climaxes with orgasmic noises during its breakdown). We got the return of Rainbow after almost two years of Korean hiatus, along with Nu’est’s move towards a newly sophisticated style. Hello didn’t do much back then, but it would go on to enjoy enormous success in 2017 after the group’s appearance on Produce 101.
But more than anything, this month was all about my top three songs. February kicked off SHINee’s incredible string of 2013 comebacks with a killer track and album. After a very promising 2012, B.A.P delivered the best single of their career, alongside a wonderfully cinematic music video. And, harnessing the power of 2013’s mega-producer Brave Brothers, Teen Top returned with two title tracks to promote their first full-length album. It’s just great stuff, all around.

TOP THREE SONGS
3. Teen Top – I Wanna Love
2. B.A.P – One Shot
1. SHINee – Dream Girl
I never really got into Teen Top, just listened to their title tracks, but damn are their title tracks good… perhaps one of the most underrated boy groups of 2nd gen

3 I would have Miss Right instead of I Wanna Love, but hey, Teen Top, woo!
And then I would also like to add Speed debut album to the honorable mention list, aka Zico’s older brother’s group. I don’t know what the main single was as there were a few music videos produced and a repackage album (or three), but among the goodies are 통증 aka “Pain” produced by Brave Brothers and “Its Over” produced by Shinsadong Tiger.

when I was posting this comment I saw your tweet you made just now of Dongkiz making a trap Genre song…………. WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK!!

Unfortunately, the “trying something new” (ie: moody trap) is like clockwork with these fun groups. It’s not even surprising anymore.

At this point , Moody trap is not something new , Why don’t they try Techno? Or maybe electro funk? Or try something aggressive without stripping most of their Signature Sound!!
The worst part is you can’t even make a good melody with trap!
