Since the start of The Bias List in January 2016, I’ve always looked back at my three favorite title tracks by K-pop artists each month. Now, it’s time to look even further into the past, one month at a time. And, yes, the top three rankings count toward The Bias List’s personal artist scorecard!
April 2012 Overall Thoughts
Dang, 2012 was legendary. Here we are in April, and I’m putting stone cold classics like Sistar’s Alone and 4minute’s Volume Up in my honorable mentions!
There are more amazing songs packed into this month than there have been in the entirety of 2020 so far. That’s pretty sobering, but it just goes to show you how incredible K-pop was in 2012.
This time, every single honorable mention could have easily been part of the top three during a weaker month. April brought us the quintessential springtime classic Cherry Blossom Ending, though the album that it came from was released a few days earlier in late March. The month also saw a hugely successful change-up in Sistar’s sound, and unveiled the debut of Girls’ Generation’s first sub-unit, TTS.
On the boy group front, F.Cuz, BTOB and U-Kiss all released fantastic singles, and my top three are all songs from male artists. After months of teasing, EXO finally made their official debut with a showstopping track. It will surprise no one where it placed in my personal countdown. Meanwhile, B.A.P released an equally bombastic burst of rock-fueled dance pop, and Park Jinyoung (JYP) made a very successful comeback with a timeless r&b jam.
2012 was continuing to ramp up, but nothing could prepare me for the legendary song that was waiting in the wings. Stay tuned! (As if you don’t already know…)

I really appreciate that you put JYP up there in the top 3. JYP, still killing it. He actually wasn’t on my list for this month, but I usually click play when he comes around on the youtube suggestions. Ah, there it is, an old school key change, because JYP also knows the power of a well timed expected key change. BTW JYP is on my April 2016 list for the Fire! performance with Colbert. That one is Fire!
A surprise on my list is:
GG-TTS “Twinkle”. I am not usually a GG stan, but this one, the vocals are fire.
Busker Busker “Cherry Blossom” spring song, still the highest ever selling Korean single ever. Its like the Bing Crosby “White Christmas”, it will never not be up there on the list. (“If only in my dreams” ending line would always make my grandma cry, even thought grandpa did come home.)

Welp! there is no point for me seeing the Top 3 of May since we already know what’s about to be in the top but let’s focus on this month. My favorite part of the month were the two debuts battling for the top spot as well as the first comeback which came third. April was a strong month for rookies in my opinion with Establishing the rivalry of EXO and B.A.P for ROTY in MAMA but in the end both of the got BUSKER BUSKERED .
Ha! lol either way My top 3 are:
3: B.A.P – Power
2: EXO – Mama
1: Btob – Insane

Sistar’s Alone. Who seriously can pull off sad disco vibes like them?! Wish Brave Brothers would write another song like this!
