Since the start of The Bias List in January 2016, I’ve always looked back at my three favorite title tracks by K-pop artists each month. Now, it’s time to look even further into the past, one month at a time. And, yes, the top three rankings count toward The Bias List’s personal artist scorecard!
February 2012 Overall Thoughts
For me, February 2012 is all about one group. It was the month where Bigbang gradually unveiled their highly-anticipated comeback album, pre-releasing two tracks with a third iconic single to drop in early March prior to the full album release. More on that one next time! For now, it will surprise no one that both Blue and Bad Boy fared very well on this monthly round-up. Imagine a world where these two classic songs arrived in the space of a single week. That was the reality in late-February.
Elsewhere, YG Entertainment scored another solid hit with SE7EN’s catchy dance track Somebody Else, and boy group Block B really found their footing with NalinA, which single-handedly catapulted them to stardom.
It was also a strong month for girl group releases. Great songs from Brave Girls, miss A and Spica helped round out my picks, with one making my top three. And perhaps most notably, February 2012 saw the debut of EXID, who would go on to receive unprecedented viral fame in late 2014.
Honorable Mentions
Block B – NalinA (video)
Brave Girls – Nowadays, You (video)
EXID – Whoz That Girl (review)
LEDApple – Time Is Up (video)
miss A – Touch (video)
SE7EN – Somebody Else (video)

It’s such a classic track. I’m also partial to this remix, which adds a nice kick to it for working out!

Speaking of Blue mashups/remixes there was this fantastic mashup on Youtube of the Blue vocal track with Girl’s Day’s Don’t Forget Me instrumental… I can’t find it on Youtube anymore though 😦

Dang! YG be scoring all those bops in this month itself. My Top 3 is all made by the YG groups/soloists. Shouldn’t be surprised since YG did put out some amazing songs on that time….. my Top 3 would be:
3. Bigbang – Bad Boy
2. SE7EN – Somebody else
1. Bigbang – Blue
By the way , I think March might be your favorite K-pop month of 2012
And by seeing that list of The Top 50 kpop songs of 2012 , I think I can predict your Top 3. Might be something like:
3. Bigbang – Fantastic Baby
2. EXO – History
1. SHINee – Sherlock

Nalina was such a great rocking song, the rap is definitely a big standout.

I’ve got
Big Bang “Love Dust” >> “Blue” > Block B “Nalina”
Love Dust is a B-side, but I play it a lot more than the others. It kicks off with a Pet Shop Boys like spoken sampling. The song isn’t too rangy, but has a great melody. (Although somehow the guys manage to go flat singing it live anyway.) The second verse just slides in effortlessly with TOP actually singing in his deep baritone, Actual bridge that doesn’t lose momentum. Its just a nice fun effortless bop that the four minutes fly by.

Oh God Touch…I remember when it released and we were all pissed that all of the other songs on the mini were what we deemed ‘better’. Lips was one of my favorite ‘old’ kpop additions to Spotify last year.
