A K-pop act’s title track isn’t always the best song on their album, even if it’s the one most people will hear. Sometimes, b-sides deserve recognition too. In the singles-oriented world of K-pop, I want to spotlight some of these buried treasures and give them the props they deserve.
Starship Entertainment’s current A&R team is on a roll, and that appears to extend to Japanese releases as well. A series of strong title tracks and albums had transformed CRAVITY into one of the most consistent purveyors of upbeat pop music. That continues with the b-side to their newly-released Japanese recording of Groovy.
I Can’t Fight The Feeling is exactly the type of song this group should be recording. It’s funky and slightly retro, driven by strong vocal melodies and a robust electro groove. It would fit perfectly on either of CRAVITY’s past two albums, which makes me hope they’ll continue to pursue this energy when they make their Korean return.
I Can’t Fight The Feeling has a slightly sinister edge that helps it stand apart from giddy tracks like Groovy and Party Rock. The phrasing during the chorus is a real treat, tracing the groove with rhythmic bite that grows quite addictive. Larger-scale production would have set this over the edge (we need electric guitar!), but this overall sound definitely matches my taste.

Cravity is the best. I love this song. They’re so much fun. This is exactly the kind of song I want for them. It’s very summery and fun.

Man I thought it was Cravity-rose-coloured glasses that made me like this song so much (or maybe rose-coloured earbuds). Happy to know I’m not the only one streaming this since it has not much plays on Spotify yet.
