Most of the time, a kpop group’s title track is the best song on their album. But, sometimes b-side tracks deserve recognition, too. In the singles-oriented world of kpop, I wanted to spotlight some of these buried treasures and give them the props they deserve.

Though I wasn’t too over-the-moon about 2PM’s latest comeback, their album Gentlemen’s Game features a couple of tracks that far eclipse the one they’ve chosen to promote. Uneasy is chief amongst them, easily standing out on first listen. I don’t usually like when k-pop borrows too heavily from western trends, and the fact that Uneasy sounds very much like a Nick Jonas or The Weeknd track should bother me more than it does. But a good song is a good song.

Uneasy takes advantage of the guys’ matured sound, coming across as a moment that feels darker and sexier than something a teen-oriented group would record. The track’s undulating electro beat gives it a slight 80’s feel, though it’s complimented by a sophisticated melody and modern production trappings that steer it far from retro territory. Most importantly, it’s miles catchier than almost anything else on the album. I can’t help but wonder how the song would have performed if it had been chosen as the title track. In a lot of ways, it feels like the biggest hit the guys have given us in over a year.
