K-Pop A-Z Review: EXO – Heart Attack

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Heart Attack (from XOXO / Growl – 2013)

Heart Attack draws that amorphous line between dance track and mid-tempo. Its energy isn’t particularly high, but its fast-paced vocal delivery gives it a loose, playful appeal that slots it nicely alongside superior tracks like Growl. Melodically, there’s not a whole lot to the song. It cycles back to its titular refrain often but spends most of its time engaged in the rhythmic, sing-song delivery that’s been an SM Entertainment hallmark for so long. Luckily, each and every element is catchy as can be, anchored by an otherworldly synth line and splashes of addictive vocal harmony during the chorus.
