She’s Dreaming (from Ex’Act / Lotto – 2016)
She’s Dreaming feels like a song painted in watercolor. Its edges all bleed into each other, powered by a warped, off-balance instrumental that gives the entire track a languid, dreamlike mood. Beyond the obvious production flourishes, She’s Dreaming rests most heavily on a repeated guitar riff, joined by trap hi-hats during the chorus. Vocals fade in and out, adding to the intangibility of the track. It’s a musical vision that is expertly crafted, but it’s not one that appeals to my taste all that strongly. The chorus is nice, but too much of the track feels aimless and unformed. I guess that’s kind of the point, though.
