K-Pop A-Z Review: EXO – Twenty Four

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Twenty Four (from For Life – 2016)

I can tell you right now, I have absolutely zero interest in a trap Christmas song. Twenty Four’s concept feels like the worst of trend-chasing, and it results in a forgettable entry to EXO’s winter discography. Incessant blasts of brass help to build interest, but Twenty Four is the kind of lackluster, throwaway hip-hop song we’ve heard too much of over the past few years. Its hook is lazy and repetitive, and the rap verses aren’t anything to write home about. Thankfully, I can chalk this track up to a one-off experiment, the likes of which we wouldn’t hear again until EXO-SC took the genre and ran with it in 2019.
