K-Pop A-Z Review: EXO – Forever

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with EXO’s A-Z reviews here!

Forever (from The War / The Power Of Music – 2017)

Forever is the kind of lumbering, almost industrial beast that SM boy groups do so well. Its arrangement has a tense energy, constantly on the build without ever reaching a sense of calm conclusion. Special mention has to go to the synth brass, which opens the track with trumpeting fanfare before returning for the bombastic chorus. I also love the stomping percussion that takes over the bridge. There’s a dense brew of instrumentation here that rewards repeated listens. The jittery melodies aren’t quite what I prefer when it comes to pop songs, but their off-kilter structure matches well with the track’s intensity.

  1. i’m totally blown by this exo song, totally supreme vocals only exo can deliver and not even those powerful synthesizers, drums and trumpets can drown out!
