Boomerang (from The War: The Power Of Music – 2017)

After a brief dalliance with funk in 2015, EXO largely abandoned the genre in favor of other trends. Boomerang revisits this sound with an 80’s synth pop edge. Opening with a bright electronic arpeggio, the track offers a head-nodding respite from the group’s edgier fare. This is pop music with an effortlessly glossy sheen, pulsing on a lively dance beat with a rhythmic chorus that knows its limits. While not the kind of ambitious work that could compete with most of their title tracks, Boomerang is a perfect palette cleanser — welcome anytime, anywhere.
